The signing ceremony for a 5.6 trillion won Chunmoo guided-missile contract in Poland/ Hanwha Aerospace SEOUL, December 30 (AJP) - South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace said on Tuesday it has signed a major contract with Poland to supply additional guided missiles for the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system.
The company said it signed a third implementation contract worth 5.6 trillion won ($4.1 billion) with Poland’s Armament Agency on Monday local time to supply 80-kilometer-range Chunmoo guided missiles, known as CGR-080. The signing ceremony was held at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw.
The deal was concluded through a consortium led by Hanwha-WB Advanced Systems (HWB), a joint venture between Hanwha Aerospace and Poland’s WB Electronics. Under the agreement, the missiles will be produced at a dedicated HWB manufacturing facility to be built in Poland and delivered directly to the Polish armed forces.
Industry officials said the contract reflects active defense diplomacy by the South Korean government and is notable for securing a local production-and-supply structure at a time when the European Union is moving to strengthen regional defense cooperation.
Hanwha Aerospace signed a framework agreement with the Polish government in 2022 to export Chunmoo launchers and guided missiles. This was followed by a first implementation contract worth 5 trillion won in November 2022 and a second valued at 2 trillion won in 2024.
With the latest agreement, the Chunmoo program in Poland enters a long-term cooperation phase that includes local manufacturing, the company said.
“We are grateful for the full-scale support and cooperation at the national level,” Chief Executive Son Jae-il said in a statement. “Through strategic defense cooperation with Poland, we will further strengthen the trust and competitiveness of K-defense.”
